The Quincy girls soccer team battled back from an early deficit and survived two rounds of penalty kicks Saturday to defeat Napoleon in a dramatic district playoff matchup. Quincy found itself trailing 2-0 in the opening half before beginning its comeback effort. Laura Bostic got Quincy on the board to cut the deficit in half before later scoring the equalizer with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation to tie the match at 2-2. Shortly after the equalizer, Quincy capitalized again with another goal to take its first lead of the night at 3-2. Napoleon answered with about 10 minutes remaining to even the score at 3-3 and set up a tense finish. Both teams traded possession throughout the remainder of regulation, but Napoleon mounted heavy pressure late. Senior goalkeeper Olivia Davenport came up with two key saves, while the Quincy defensive line held strong. A late Napoleon goal was wiped away by an offsides call, helping send the match into extra time tied 3-3. Extra time continued with strong back-and-forth play as Napoleon again pressured the Quincy defense. Davenport and the Quincy back line continued to respond, preserving the tie and eventually forcing a penalty shootout. In the opening shootout round, Quincy converted twice on goals from Laura Bostic and Olivia Carpenter. Davenport delivered three huge stops in goal to extend the match into a second shootout round. In the deciding round, both teams exchanged makes and misses before goals from Klohie Crall and Victoria Francis helped Quincy stay alive. Davenport then made her final save of the night to seal the victory and send Quincy into the District Semi-Finals at Eaton Rapids Tuesday in a memorable pre-district thriller.
