The Quincy Varsity Orioles were swept in a doubleheader at Springport on Friday, falling 10-0 in Game 1 and 5-1 in Game 2. In the opener, Springport jumped out early, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second to take control. Despite turning two double plays defensively, the Orioles couldn’t slow the Spartans’ momentum. Cobee Stevens took the loss on the mound, while Springport’s Andon Zienert threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 10. In Game 2, Quincy competed in a tighter contest, but Springport pulled away for a 5-1 win. The Spartans scored in the second and added to their lead in the third before securing the victory late. Seth VanStelle recorded Quincy’s lone hit of the second game, while the Orioles continued to battle at the plate and on the mound. JJ Wright started and struck out four over three and two-thirds innings. Springport’s Gibson Overweg was dominant in Game 2, allowing just one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings. Quincy will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they return home to face Bronson. The Orioles drop to 5-3 on the season. (2-2 Big 8)
